𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝Recently, while vacationing north of Scotland, I had a chance to see many puffins. These beautiful birds cluster together in protected areas of seaside cliffs catching the wind as they soar high above the rough surf.Seeing puffins was a treat. They have such vibrant and unusual faces and beaks. But getting to them wasn’t easy. First, you have to travel to the islands in the North Sea where they live. Then you have to hike miles to the top of cliffs high above the ocean. Once there, the birds don’t just magically appear. They perch amongst flower-covered rocks, in nooks and crannies in canyons created by the cliffs. To get a good look, you must peer over the edge as the wind whips past. Making sure your footing is secure before you start taking shots at different angles is critical!Often there is an inverse relationship between ease and value. It’s true in all aspects of life. If the task is easy to achieve, we tend to de-value it. The harder the task, the greater the satisfaction and joy we feel when we accomplish it. Technology has made our lives easier in almost every respect. We turn on the AC when we’re warm. We tell Siri to dim the lights. We use a blower instead of raking leaves. We send a friend a text instead of a hand-written note. Tech-infused life encourages us to shy away from that which is difficult. While I'm not suggesting that we turn back the clock when it comes to technology, I am suggesting that we prioritize those experiences in life that we truly value and put in the hard work to achieve them. Both the journey to get there and the reward awaiting us is pretty amazing!#puffins #hardwork #nature #reward #technology #orkney #shetland #faroeislands #photographyislife #photography "Puffin In Flight," Shetland Islands 2023

LIMMEN NATIONAL PARK - A JOURNEY BACK THROUGH TIMELimmen National Park was announced in 2012 and, at approximately 9400 km2, is the third-largest national park in the Northern Territory. Situated on the Gulf of Carpentaria, some 600 km to Darwin’s south-east, the park’s major drawcard is its towering sandstone rock formations, which so resemble tall apartment blocks that they are known as the East and West “Lost Cities”. The unique park also boasts several rivers, including the Limmen Bight River, from which the park takes its name and wetlands. An inland sea once covered this land, and the towers, which spread over 8 km2, are the eroded sedimentary bedrock. Viewed from the air, on a helicopter scenic flight service from Cape Crawford, their clustered structure is even more apparent; however, if your budget forces you to explore this stunning landscape on foot, head for Limmen National Park. Some of the Northern Territory’s parks and reserves allow drone photography with a valid permit for either recreational or commercial use, including Limmen National Park.EXTRACT FROM THE STEVE PARISH PHOTOGRAPHING AUSTRALIA ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDE >https://lnkd.in/g-CCSbY#nationalpark #northernterritory #australianlandscape #landscapephotography #photography #exploreaustralia #wanderingaustralia #travel #travelphotography #travelblogger #australianlandscape #australia

Underwater Photography TipsUnderwater photography is a fascinating and challenging that allows you to capture the beauty of the underwater world. Invest in a good quality waterproof camera or a waterproof housing for your existing camera. Wide-angle lenses are popular for capturing underwater scenes, as they allow you to capture a broader perspective. Consider using an underwater strobe or continuous lighting system to illuminate your subjects properly. Water absorbs light, so additional lighting helps bring out colors and details.#photography Learn to Swim and Dive:Prioritize your safety and the safety of the marine environment. If you plan to photograph in open water, ensure you are a competent swimmer and certified scuba diver if you intend to dive to deeper depths.Understand Underwater Conditions:Learn about the specific underwater environment you'll be shooting in, such as the visibility, water temperature, currents, and marine life. This knowledge will help you plan your shots and be prepared for any challenges.Master Underwater Shooting Techniques:Composition: Apply basic photography principles like the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing to create visually pleasing images.Depth of Field: Experiment with different aperture settings to control the depth of field and achieve the desired focus.Shutter Speed: Adjust your shutter speed to capture moving subjects or achieve creative effects. Faster shutter speeds freeze motion, while slower speeds can create motion blur.Use Color Filters:Water absorbs colors as you go deeper, resulting in a bluish or greenish cast. Consider using color correction filters or shooting in RAW format to correct the color balance during post-processing.Get Close to Your Subject:Water tends to reduce the clarity and color of your subject. To capture more detail and vibrant colors, get as close as possible while maintaining a safe distance from marine life.Experiment with Angles and Perspectives:Try shooting from different angles and perspectives to create unique and visually appealing images. Shoot upwards, downwards, or from below to add depth and drama to your shots.Post-Processing:Once you've captured your underwater images, use photo editing software to fine-tune them. Adjust the exposure, color balance, and sharpness to enhance the overall quality.Remember to respect the marine environment and follow local guidelines and regulations for underwater photography. It's essential to prioritize the well-being of the marine life and ecosystems you encounter.#underwaterphotography #underwater #protips #gopro

For more than a century, the haunting yet fascinating story of the RMS Titanic has captured our imaginations. When the Titanic was first discovered, another wreck was too. The freighter, “Kirk Pride” that sank in Georgetown harbor in Grand Cayman was found hanging precariously on a ledge on the Cayman Wall at 800 feet. I had an assignment that carried me, in a small two man plus pilot submarine, into the black depths of the Cayman Trench to view the wreck. Many years later, I was squeezing into a survival suit and loading cameras into an inflatable RIB boat. We set out nearly 20 miles offshore Newfoundland, in the Canadian Atlantic maritime province to photograph icebergs. The drifting of icebergs from their origin on the west coast of Greenland to the coast of Newfoundland is about 1800 nautical miles and takes an average of 2 to 3 years. The huge glacial ice that creates the icebergs was was formed during the last ice age. Just think, mammoths may have walked on the very ice 10,000 years ago. Only about 450 miles from the resting grave of the Titanic, the icebergs rise over ten stories and are as large as several sports stadiums. As much as 90% of its size floats below the surface. Not allowed to get too close as they have been known to roll causing a Tsunami type wave that could swamp a small boat. An intimidating sight, I could feel the cold air coming off these massive icebergs as we float by at sea level. I hope you all will join me in contributing to the wonders of travel photography. Don't forget to follow and live a great story! How close can visitors get to the mountain gorillas? To witness #mountaingorillas in the wild is carefully regulated, and the minimum distance maintained between #gorillas and visitors is 7 meters. However, #gorillas are used to people and can get closer, especially while travelling and feeding. Gorilla groups are all different in terms of composition, individual personalities and their chosen habitat, so each encounter feels fresh. #visitrwanda_now#luxuryvacation#luxury #LuxuryTravel #lux #photography #luxuryadventure #ScenicLuxuryVacation #luxurylifestyle #Rwandahttps://lnkd.in/dgzTGGVx
