Easy Peppermint Bark Recipe (1)

This peppermint bark is by far the easiest thing that I make. All it is is melted bars of semi-sweet and white chocolate and crushed candy canes or peppermints. And it’s so much tastier than store bought versions!

This bark makes a perfect hostess gift or gift for neighbors and friends too. Simply put several pieces in a mason jar and tie a pretty bow around the lid.

How Do You Make Peppermint Bark from Scratch?

Line a cookie sheet or jelly roll pan with parchment paper or waxed paper.

Melt semisweet chocolate in the microwave for 1 – 1 /1/2 minutes on high. Stir and heat for an additional 30 seconds. Stir again and repeat for another 30 seconds if necessary.

Spread semisweet chocolate over the waxed paper, ¼ inch thick.

Place pan in the refrigerator and allow this to set for about 30 minutes.

Melt white chocolate in the microwave for 1 – 1 /1/2 minutes on high. Stir and heat for an additional 30 seconds. Stir again and repeat for another 30 seconds if necessary. (be very careful not to burn)

Spread white chocolate over the semisweet chocolate.

Sprinkle over crushed peppermint candies.

Easy Peppermint Bark Recipe (2)

Gently press the candies into the chocolate to keep them from falling off.

Place the pan back in the refrigerator and allow the chocolate to completely set for 1 hour.

Once the chocolate has set, break it into pieces.

Enjoy!

How long will peppermint bark keep?

Peppermint bark will last for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container or up to 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator.

Tips

Place 3-4 candy canes or peppermint candies in a sandwich bag and beat it with my rolling pin or meat mallet. I prefer really small pieces but you can choose to leave the pieces larger if you’d like.

Using quality chocolate does make a different how your bark will taste. I recommend Ghirardelli.

Choose white chocolate bars that are made with real cocoa butter and not just oils.

If you like a extra peppermint flavor, stir in ¼ teaspoon of peppermint extract into the melted white chocolate prior to adding it to the dark chocolate layer.

Variations of Peppermint Bark

Use milk chocolate in place of dark chocolate if desired

Replace about ¼ of the peppermint candy pieces with holiday sprinkles.

Add a few holiday M&M’s for more color.

Make the bark with just one chocolate instead of both. Either all white chocolate or all dark chocolate
