Why You Will Love it!

This easy kid-friendly Broccoli Cheese Sticks Recipe is actually pretty low carb as well. I am not too familiar with the Keto diet, so I am not quite sure about that one!

Most bread crumbs have about 78 carbs per cup, broccoli has about 3 carbs per cup, eggs are about 1 carb each and cheddar cheese - depending on which brand you buy - has about 3 carbs in a cup.

As this recipe breaks down into 16 servings, each serving is about 5.5 carbs. Not bad for a tasty little snack while on a low carb diet!

This Broccoli Cheese Sticks recipe was inspired by our , and makes for a great appetizer recipe like our Chicken Wing Charcuterie Board!

Directions for making this Easy Kid-Friendly Broccoli Cheese Sticks Recipe

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Using a steamer pot, steam frozen broccoli under tender, and then let it cool.

Place the cooked broccoli in a food processor with a standard "s" blade. Process until smooth, it should take about 30 seconds. If you do not have a food processor, you can use a potato masher or a hand chopper.

In a large bowl, add bread crumbs, cheese, eggs and broccoli, then mix it together well.

Pour mixture onto the parchment lined baking sheet and shape into a large rectangle (it should be about 8 x 12 inches). With a rubber spatula, cut into 8 sticks, and then cut those 8 into half to create 16 sticks. They should end up being about 1 ½" by 4 inches.

Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees and then turn them over. Bake for another 15 minutes, or if you want them crispier, bake for an additional 5 minutes at a time until they reach the desired crispiness.

  2. Lynn @ Riggstown Road

I will definitely be making these! Thanks! 🙂

I would lobe to make this for my son but he has an egg allergy. Do you have any recommendations on what I can substitute the eggs with?

  4. Jenn

This may help: Egg Substitute Mix (homemade) --> To replace 1 egg: 2 tablespoon flour + 1/2 teaspoon oil + 1/2 teaspoon baking powder + 2 tablespoons liquid (milk, cream, buttermilk, diluted yogurt, or dairy free alternatives like coconut milk, soy milk, etc) beaten together until smooth.

  5. Judy Bethell

Italian breadcrumbs aren't available here. There are packets of dried breadcrumbs or panko used mainly for stuffing or coating. Would either of these be a good substitute or should I grate my own fresh? Looks lovely.

  6. Jenn

You can use Panko or regular breadcrumbs - just add a tiny bit of italian seasoning spices 🙂

  7. Diana

I am all by myself now and am learning how to cook for one. This recipe will be a good one for me as a healthy snack.

Can this be done with any other veggies?

The consistency is so unique with broccoli - you may be able to do it with cauliflower.

  11. Aline

This recipe is pretty similar to timbales, so you probably could, you just need to watch the liquid content.

What can i replace the cheese with

  13. Jenn

I am not sure, I would suggest googling "cheese substitutions" and seeing what you can find. Good luck!

  14. Anna

Do you need to squeeze the water out of the steamed broccoli at any point before mixing with the other ingredients?

  15. Marilyn Noel

I'm beginning KETO in a couple of days. These look delicious but I was wondering if they could be made with pork rinds. These are already pretty low in carbs but I'd like to make them even lower so I can have more of them. 🙂

  16. Jenn

I am not familiar with that substitution, but maybe? If you try it, let me know!

made these for my 3-1/2 year old grandson, he loved them. Great recipe, easy to freeze then reheat, if there are any left.

  18. Jenn

Thank you for the feedback! I am so glad he loved them!

Wondering why frozen broccoli? Wouldn't fresh steamed work as good?
    Anxious to try this recipe

I didn't have Italian bread crumbs so I used panko. Rats! Forgot to add Italian herbs! I also used fresh broccoli (just steamed before chopping). Any dips for this you would recommend? I mixed mayo with a little Dijon...

  21. Jenn

You can use either, but for our family, we always have frozen veggies on hand. 🙂
